    Common Questions About Getting Started

What happens when I contact you?

    +

We will have a straightforward conversation about what is keeping you up at night. No sales pitch, no jargon, just me listening to understand your situation. I will ask questions about your business, what you are trying to achieve, and what is not working right now. If I can help, I will explain how. If I cannot, I will tell you honestly and point you in the right direction. Most initial conversations last around 30 minutes and give us both enough to decide whether working together makes sense.

Do you work with small businesses?

    +

Yes. Most of my clients are UK SMEs who need practical security that fits their business. You do not need to be a large organisation to get proper cyber security advice. Whether you are a 10-person startup or a 500-person company, the approach stays the same: understand what you need, implement what makes sense, skip what does not. Small businesses often move faster because there is less complexity to untangle. The key is matching the security to your actual risks, not copying what bigger organisations do.

How do you work with clients?

    +

Mostly remotely, with on-site visits when they add value. Initial assessments sometimes work better face to face, but ongoing support happens through video calls, emails, and shared documents. I work around your schedule. Some clients prefer intensive blocks of work, others spread things out over months. The point is making it work for your business. Everything gets documented clearly so you always know where we are and what comes next.

What if we are not ready for full consulting?

    +

That is fine. Sometimes businesses just need a second opinion or quick guidance on a specific problem. I offer different levels of support depending on what you actually need right now. Maybe that is a one-off assessment to understand your security gaps. Maybe it is answering questions as they come up. Start with what you need today and we can always expand later if it makes sense.

    How quickly can you start?

    +

It depends on what you need and current workload. Emergency situations get priority: if you have had an incident or failed an audit, we can usually start within days. For planned work, typical lead time is a few weeks. The initial conversation happens quickly though, usually within a couple of days of reaching out. That is often enough to get you pointed in the right direction even if the work itself starts later. I will always be straight with you about availability.

Do you only work with UK businesses?

    +

Primarily yes, though I help international businesses with UK operations or those dealing with UK regulations. My expertise is grounded in UK compliance requirements and how UK businesses actually operate. If you are based elsewhere but need to meet UK standards or work with UK clients, I can help with that. Understanding the UK business environment is where I add the most value.

What if we do not know what we need?

    +

That is completely normal. Most businesses know something is not right with their security but cannot pinpoint exactly what. Maybe you have had clients asking questions you cannot answer. Perhaps you are losing tenders because of missing certifications. Or you just have that nagging feeling you are exposed somewhere. That is what the initial conversation is for: figuring out what actually needs attention versus what can wait. We start with understanding your business, then work out what security makes sense for you.
